Hunt, Maxine Juanita Nicholas
Apr 10, 2018She was one of five children born to the late Samuel and Susie Eanes Nicholas on June 23, 1930. She was resident of Roanoke her whole life, leaving only to formulate her education. Maxine taught in local schools, played piano and organ music in what is believed every church in and around Roanoke, special programs, conventions, weddings and funerals. A member of Hill Street Baptist Church her entire life, she played and directed many choirs of all faiths. At the time of her death, she was Music Director Emeritus for Hill Street Baptist Church and Saint Paul United Methodist Church. She leaves a superior legacy of music to our souls never saying "no" to God's work. Maxine was a chartered member of the Roanoke Chapter of Omnia Bona, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority - Beta Chi Omega Chapter, and Friends of the Roanoke Symphony, Music Director for Valley Baptist Association, Virginia Baptist Convention, and Organizer of the Golden Chorale. She has received many accolades for her involvement and participation in a great many community events and an organizer for the The Old Ship of Zion production. Maxine was a devoted wife to Alaska Hunt; loving sister to her sisters and brother, Norma Wheeler, Barbara Jean Watson, Jacqueline Raphael and Clarence Patterson, all of whom preceded her in death. Left to mourn her departure are devoted daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Moses Anthony; two granddaughters, Cathrine and Caroline Anthony; two nephews, Juan Patterson and Chester (Royce) Davis; three nieces, Bella and Barbara Raphael and Veranean Davis; two great-nephews; Nicholas and Damien Patterson; one cousin, William (Karen) Hundley; five church daughters, Garnetta Walker, Wanda Smith, and Edna Toiliver, of Hill Street Baptist Church, Andrea Chubb, and Pam Hutchinson of Saint Paul United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Hill Street Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
